the day the earth stood still

CONFESSIONS!

LOOK INTO MY EYE AND TELL ME YOU ARE LISTENING

Are you ready, are you sitting down? For 2 days this week I wore...pants?

I shocked myself, really. PANTS. I own exactly 2 pairs of pants. Peggy Noland dropcrotch cheetahprint hammer pants (for casual Fridays) and Dries Van Noten linen denim giant leg trousers that I bought at Barney's in 2002.

This week I wore the latter. I haven't worn these pants since like...2005.

LET'S CALL THESE WHAT THEY ARE, MMKAY? FASHION JNCOS.
PANTS // DRIES VAN NOTEN     CARDIGAN // ROGAN    JERSEY // BF'S   SHOES // RANDOM PATENT BLACK OXFORDS    LIPSTICK // MAC RED

I don't know what came over me. I knew I really wanted to wear Hunter's Michael Jordan jersey, and that was already supes 90svibin to me, stylewise. And so I guess I just went for it?

This outfit is inspired by:
Myself at 16 (good LORD were my pants enormous), this photo from Brendan:

I TOTALLY HAD PANTS LIKE THIS IS 1996. ANYONE REMEMBER "MOM N ME"? ANYONE?

And by this:

LOUIS VUITTON PRE-FALL 2010

It felt really good, but only when I wore it with red red RED lipstick (MAC RED is so dope, and it smells like frosting) and heels. Otherwise, I felt a lil bit like a scrub.

I TOOK A PICTCHA SO IT WOULD LAST LONGA

Are bifurcated garments my new frontier for the twentydime? SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

I do remember pants that big, around the time all the punk-ska Gainesville, Florida bands were popular (Less Than Jake, et al) -- and I specifically remember it being that time because they released a comp CD that was called "Big Pants Waste Precious Fabric".

I was firmly in a '77 punk + '80s rocker aesthetic at the time so I never wore them but hung out with skaters who did.

They look comfortable!

lol, it looks like you're really having fun with your style here. I hate wearing pants myself, they usually just say 'work' and 'conservative' to me. Well, these ones certainly don't! 'I'm out there Jerry and I'm lovin' every minute of it!'!!!

You really pull them off well! :D Unfortunately it doesn't work out that way for me lolz.

I bought some baggy Steve Jobs jeans in southern Illinois for a laugh; I've discovered that working them into my portfolio in real life has paid significant dividends. They look semi-normal and first but then it's like "Why are your nearly-white bluish jeans so huge?"

Haha, those ravers are insane. Not gonna lie, I cannot abide baggy jeans but you are a badass and also quite possibly Jesus, so I forgive you.

Haha! Love it.

Although I love my tight jeans, hugely wide-leg pants will always be in my heart. Such a good call with this outfit, I was trying to picture it when you tweeted about it but this is BEYOND. So good

JNCO!!! omg I'm dying right now.
I totally had that photo on my wall of the two kids. His pants blew me away and her tattoo was so amazing to me. Remember when Fendi had some fat pants too? Oh the 90's! I think they may have had ginormous grommets on them.....

yes yes on the return of big pants! I was a candy raver (and I'm not ashamed!).
