Holidaze Update: Easing Back Into Reality

Digging myself out of post blizzard/holiday/perma-pajama life.
Will take a lot of pics today to start posting again in earnest tomorrow!!

We could allllll use a lil patience, right?

PS: the lustiness runneth over in this video, which for a time DOMINATED the MTV rotation; it had to have bene on like 30 times a day at least. Who do you want to bone more, Slash or Duff? It's a toss up, really.

PPS: Axl's hip gyrations are (Izzy) straddling a line between comical and XXX, no?

It's That Time of Year

IT'S CHRISTMAS! It doesn't matter how old I get, I still get a thrill outta Christmas morning- coffee in our pajamas and goofy stuff in our stockings and legit fun family times all day long.

Let's all be merry and celebrate while this tune (in my top 3 of Christmas songs- along with Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer and Dominic the Donkey) runs ceaselessly through our minds.

SIDENOTE: Could almost everyone look more BORED? Who has less enthusiasm- Sting or Jody Watley (OMG JODY WATLEY)? FEED THE WORLD, YOU GUYS. And try not to look so miz while you're doin it, ok?
Not to be missed: A young Boy Goerge doing "casual", George Michael's frosted lesbian hairdo, Simon LeBon's shoulder pads, Phil Collins pounding the drums and I never realized how much Bono looks...like Michael Showalter?

ENJOY (how could you not?)
&
HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!!!! Hope yours is warm and fuzzy and full of nog!

Just Saying: My Whole Life is a Dark Room

The sad dead tiny red flower buds in the foreground really just complete this lil' goth moment, doesn't it? There there, MK, the sun will come out again!

I love your pants.

PS WHERE DO I GET THAT UMBRELLA? It's Daphne Guinness as a water shield. Or perhaps ALT is now donating scraps from his caftans to make chic accessories for the girl who has everything?

EDIT: You can get a reasonable facsimile here, purchasable in Canadian dollars. Although really, in purple it doesn't have the same "permanently at a funeral in my mind" vibe that a black version does..(thanks for the link, Poochie!)

Recent Acquisitions: Christmasyness

Presents presents presents...some for me, some for you! Well, not all of you. Mostly for my family. But that could be YOU?

Gift to myself, 2 prints from 20x200:
Lovebirds, by Luke Stephenson. I'm going to frame them and hang them over my bed.

A gift to myself, with generous help from Kate Spade!
A pair of pink patent leather flats. So perfectly different than anything I own, and therefore the obvious choice. Worn with vintage silk stockings that won't stay up (adding garters to my wishlist) to match my wrappings, bien sur bien sur.

My gifts to others! Brown kraft wrapping paper from Kate's Paperie, robin's egg blue embossed paper and neon ribbons from JAM paper store, hangtags from Target, and a few assorted strings and fabric strips that I reused for ribbons (for boy presents).

On top of these various delights, everyone gets homemade compost cookies. I mean am I a great gift-giver OR WHAT?

What's everyone getting or giving this weekend??!?!

Today's Special: Red & Denim

I can't stop wearing my Brook&Lyn surrounded necklace. I love it, I love it, I love it. It's handmade and has green agates (I let Mimi herself choose the color for me) and people stop to ask about it AND, as far as this gal is concerned: it makes pretty much anything into a dress.

denim shirt-as-dress: Levi's, thrifted // red tights: American Apparel // custom red clogs: No.6 // necklace/harness: Brook&Lyn surrounded day // nail polish: American Apparel

There are so many possibilities..a belt, a sash, maybe suspenders? Must keep playing.
Soooo glad I forgot to snap my pocket closed for the pic, but that's where I carry my phone...self-styling fail. Oopsydoopsssss.

Musical Appreciation: Tennis/South Carolina

GOOD MORNING, HAPPY MONDAY! Good grief, my head is splitting..Christmas cheer has a nasty hangover when Christmas cheer is multiple hot whiskeys sucked down with a straw. TMI?

Let's start the week in high spirits..Tennis is getting me through this morning !

Can't Wait: Portlandia

Portlandia started filming a week after I came home from my annual Portland Summer quest, I wanted so badly to interview Fred Armisen or at the very least score some sort of cameo but sadly I just have to wait until January 21st like the rest of us revel in the comic hilarity of my most favorite city.

Please watch, and perhaps get a taste for what I love so much about it.

*It is probably important to note that at a party on my first night ever in Portland, Oregon I was shown a cell phone picture of Fred Armisen's quite sizable flaccid peen by some girl he had dated there (pre-marriage to Peggy Olsen).
EDITOR'S NOTE: There was a remote control in the frame "for scale".

AND SO WE COME FULL CIRCLE.

Today's Special: Holiday Cheerz

I attended one of my favorite of all Christmas parties last weekend, the annual Walter & Melissa Martin holiday situation. Their apartment is beautiful, the people are fun and the food is amazing. Plus you get really drunk and stay til at least 3 AM. Or at least..I do? This is what i wear in such FESTIVE situations:

plaid flannel button-down: thrift // silver sequin skirt: Gap (highly recommend! cheap and versatile...wear it like it's denim, ya know?) // super black tights: Topshop 120 den // cheap red wine that I brought

HERE'S TO YOU, INTERNETS.
I love Christmas!!!

Just Saying: Jangle What?

I spotted this in the window of a ju-ree store in midtown. There are faster ways to make your establishment seem less respectable but they would all be much less WTF than this jangle right here:

I like to imagine that each machine-gun toting ski-masked bank robber is lovingly hand-crafted by old women who use the tweezers of their ancestors to place each and every rhinestone on this charming piece. Love that they left the gun unadorned, so chic don't you think?

Question: Do they sell this for actual money or do you just wrest it from them by force?

Out & About: Miu Miu Musings

I'm noooooot entirely sure how to put last Friday's experience into words..but I'll try; for you friends..for you. I had the extreme pleasure and honor of being invited to the first Miu Miu Musings, an intimate salon that will be held to discuss a variety of topics..we began with What Is Fashion, hosted by Shala Monroque and led by Andre Leon Talley.

I mean.

..What IS Fashion, anyway right?

Based on the slightly surreal experience of the other night, fashion is a lot of things.

It's a small brightly lit room full of chartreuse brocade (I love it so so much) full of Major Looks, Andre Leon Talley's stories about Madame Vreeland, the new Cleopatra book, fantastic books and gorgeous candies, pronouncing it MAH-NAY-KHAN instead of the way perhaps you and I say MANNEQUIN, a gorgeously lithe girl in a golden turban and shocking red knit minidress, Mrs Obama's mix, wishing to be Julia Restoin for a day, a fur muff the size of a king size pillowcase, and teenaged sons of supermodels that have to be seen to be believed. Teenaged sons that at ages 14 & 16 wear Dior Homme suits and full Galliano sequined outfits and multiple diamond rings. (Yes. I am serious..please look to the photos and spot his creative tie placement)

And for added ecstacy..the Miu Miu SS11 collection was out for fondling.

Moments of magicalness, right this way:

I wore a vintage psychedelic polyester dress, my Brook&Lyn surrounded necklace, and Ernie the Mandy Coon x OfAKind bunny bag.

ALT asked who made my dress and I said it was thrift !!! I didn't want to lie and I felt fine being myself. And he LOVED the bunny bag! VERY EXCITING, very surreal, very insane, very incredible.

Thank you ALT, thank you Shala, thank you Miu Miu !

Today's Special: Winter Wear & Funny Face

It's cold, it's not cold, it's cold, it's not cold. Luckily this wool cape coat is lined (and the sleeved are attached!) and can be worn either way.

1960's Juniors wool capecoat: Portland thrifts // Knee-high leather motorcycle boots: vintage store in Rome // Swifty Lazar sunnies: Lanvin x H&M

Love these sunglasses so hard (special Thanks to Faran for picking them up for me..), they were the 1 item on my Lanvin wish list and I feel lucky to have gotten a pair!

Although I get the distinct feeling that Alber was strongly influenced by Swifty Lazar aka the male equivalent of Iris Apfel when the design was conjured up...

This guy knew what was up.

Just Saying: Online Shopping = Evil ?

Perhaps online sale shopping IS the work of the DEVIL?! I have thought this before, but now I see it may be TRUE.

THE POWER OF THE PLATFORM COMPELSSSSSSS YOUUUUUUUUU!
HAIL Y S(ATAN) L !!!!

(go to 4:55 if you need amusement)

Destination: Wendy Nichol Store

Last week I stopped by the delicious lil jewel that is the new storefront & studio of White Lightning love Wendy Nichol (147 Sullivan St.). In the hour or so I hung out, the customers varied from a Mom buying multiple necklaces-wrapped as gifts- for herself and a kooky college gal with pink streaks and the weirdest boots ever to and old friend of mine from the Times who stopped in to say hi.

There are the usual whipstitched gorgeous bags (leather, ponyhair and a SECRET SPRING COLLAB)

And now Wendy has started knitting...SCARVES and WRAPS and..wall art?

 Her gorgeous jewelry:

My bullet bag, in  luxe-y LIPSTICK RED

There are cozy seats by the door and an unending glass of red wine found its way into my hand..I didn't wanna leave ! Highly recommend a pop in.
