Where have I Been?!?!?!

HI HI HI THERE HI!
It has been a white since I blogged and for that I am sad and full of internet guilt!
I've started a new job you guys!
Fulltime again, at a magazine, makin things happen! We'll chat here about it in due time.

Until then let's discuss that fact that I do not own APPROPS WORK CLOTHES.
Day-glo polyester frocks are nooooot really cutting it right now?

WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO WORK? I don't own black clothes!
Shit is getting reallllly creative over here, shopping-my-own-closetwise.

Shrunken blazer: H&M // Layered, ruffled silk skirt (worn as a dress): Marc by Marc Jacobs SS 05 // Neon patent leather belt: Ancient UO // Tights: Topshop // Pointy white brogues: Gift from a friend, no idea?!?!

ISN"T MY HAIR DOPE? I look like a Ronnette!! I got it did for a thing. It's kinda rad, I want to do it every week? How fucking decadent would THAT be. I mean..it can't be that much right? To have perfect hair for a few days every week? (Am I gross?)

I am still trying to figure out "work clothes".  My general style occupies this very special sliver of space that makes them appropriate for..exactly nothing real. I don't own anything practical, for like..a hike or painting a room. I dont anything seriously fancy or conservative, like for a wedding or an interview.

Basically I am dressed perfectly at all times for cocktails on the lanai with Blanche and Dorothy or maybe a quick leer at the poolboy with Mrs Roper. Outside of those zones, shit gets a little sore thumb-y. (But who cares?)

I need to relearn how to blog on the regs AND work fulltime. I will figure it out because I love this crazy internets space too much not to..just be patient with me???

So curious: what magazine are you at?!
Or is it super top secret?

I hear you on the practical clothes front. I start my teaching placement soon and I have NOTHING to wear. Apparently my yellow docs are a no no? Who knew?!

any place where you can't were THIS is nowhere you should be working! it's totz appropz. in my experience, adding a blazer/coat that's semi-"professional" to anything makes it work-worthy. Also, your hair is suhhh shiny and good.

Be yourself when you go to work. I now that there are some limitations, but I DO NOT like those typical work outfits: grey vest and trousers, it can look so dull. For me the hardest part is to dress up in the morning, I have so many pieces that I don’t want to wear when I go to work, I want to keep them for some special occasions. On a special occasion you get excited and then you do want to dress up. But for a Monday morning, nope. So you are so different and stylish, so please translate that into a work outfit.

PS PJ Harvey and Bjork; they bring back so many memories from the 90's

Girl you're lucky you can wear that - you work at a magazine!

I work in HR and I love it but my wardrobe does NOT match the profession.

I bought a few basic black shirts at target and I find adding them under anything makes it look more subdued. hahha but who knows

if they dont tell you you're inappropriate youre good to go

Let me tell you.. I constantly struggle with work wear. I go out shopping for things SPECIFICALLY to wear to the office, but... i can't change my personal style. I absolutely refuse to wear a damn suit or SLACKS. I don't even own jeans!

When it comes down to it.. You're a creative. I'm not sure EXACTLY what you're doing at your new job, but I assume it's not HEAD OF ACCOUNTING. Don't change the style. In my opinion.. every outfit you've ever posted is office appropriate. If anything.. my wacky work outfits have made me stand out.

I'm guessing that because you're at a magazine your office culture is slightly less conservative than say a non-creative type industry. But of course, there are still limits. You could probably get away with wearing bright prints on dresses and skirts if you throw a dark jacket/cardigan/blazer over it. Also if your dresses are shorter, you can get away with it by wearing opaque tights. And if you have a solid color skirt, you can layer that over dresses too to tone things down. You definitely don't need to buy an entire "work wardrobe" though. I'm interested to see what you come up with.

I'm always cold, I have like a lower body temperature than everyone else, but I love wearing skirts and dresses, so I've learned to combine them with thick coulerful tights and nice jumpers. It's still hard to get the right work outfit, but if you have the time and energy you can come up with some cool combinations!
